Chapter 2
Christ's Entrance Into This World
Descent from Abraham, Judah, and Jesse
"In your seed (Jesus) all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice." Genesis 22:18
The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people. 49:10
"There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots. (Jesus) Isaiah 11:1
And in that day there shall be a Root of Jesse, Who shall stand as a banner to the people; For the Gentiles shall seek Him, and His resting place shall be glorious." Isaiah 11:10
The Prophecies Applied
He has helped His servant Israel, in remembrance of His mercy, Luke 1:54
As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed forever. - -55
To perform the mercy promised to our fathers and remember His holy covenant, - -72
The oath which He swore to our father Abraham: - -73
"You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which GOD made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, `And in your seed (Jesus) all the families of the earth shall be blessed.' Acts 3:25
Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, "And to seeds," as of many, but as of one, "And to your Seed," who is Christ. Galatians 3:16

To Spring from David
Behold, the days are coming," says the LORD, that I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; A King shall reign and prosper, and execute judgment and righteousness in the earth.
Jeremiah 23:5
Recognized as David's Son
And all the multitudes were amazed and said, "Could this be the Son of David?" Matthew 12:23
And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, "Have mercy on me, O LORD, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon possessed." - 15:22
Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David! `Blessed is He who comes in the name of the
LORD!' Hosanna in the highest!" - 21:9
Then Jesus answered and said, while He taught in the temple, "How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the Son of David?" Mark 12:35
"For David himself said by the Holy Spirit: `The LORD said to my LORD, "Sit at My right hand, till I make Your enemies Your footstool."' - -36
"Therefore David himself calls Him `LORD,' how is He then his Son?" And the common people heard Him gladly. - -37
From this man's seed, according to the promise, GOD raised up for Israel a Savior -Jesus- Acts 13:23
Concerning His Son Jesus Christ our LORD, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, Romans 1:3
To Be Born of A Virgin
Therefore the LORD Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14
Curds and honey He shall eat, that He may know to refuse the evil and choose the good. - -15
For before the Child shall know to refuse the evil and choose the good, the land that you dread will be forsaken by both her kings. - -16
How long will you gad about, O you backsliding daughter? For the LORD has created a new thing in the earth - A woman shall encompass a man. Jeremiah 31:22
Fulfilment
Then Mary said to the angel, "How can this be since I do not know a man?" Luke 1:34
And did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son. And he called His name JESUS. Matthew 1:25
Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by GOD to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, Luke 1:26
To a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. - -27
Prophecy Applied
Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the LORD through the prophet, saying:
Matthew 1:23
"Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "GOD with us." - -24
Angelic Message - (Virgin Mary)
And having come in, the angel said to her, "Rejoice, highly favored one, the
LORD is with you: blessed are you among women!" Luke 1:28
But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. - -29
Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with GOD. - -30
And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. - -31
Conception
And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of GOD. Luke 1:35
Then Mary said, "Behold the maidservant of the LORD! Let it be to me according to your word." And the angel departed from her. - -38
Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!" - -42
But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my LORD should come to me? - -43
For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. - -44
Joseph, Demur, and Marriage
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 1:18
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly. - -19
But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the LORD appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit."
- -20
"And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins." - -21
Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the LORD commanded him and took to him his wife. - -24
Birth Predicted (When)
"Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem until the Messiah the Prince, there shall be seven weeks and sixty two weeks. The street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times. Daniel 9:25
Birth (Where)
"But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be ruler in Israel, whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting." Micah 5:2
Therefore He shall give them up, until the time that she who is in labor has given birth; then the remnant of His brethren shall return to the children of Israel. - -3
Birth
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, Luke 2:4
To be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. - -5
So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. - -6
And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. - -7
Prophecy Applied
And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. Matthew 2:4
So they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: - -5
`But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are not the least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you shall come a Ruler who will shepherd My people Israel.' - -6
Detection and Recognition
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, Luke 2:1
Saying, "Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him." - -2
"And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger." Luke 2:12
So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, "Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the LORD has made known to us." - -15
And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. - -16
And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the LORD, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem. - -38
Circumcised and Named
And when eight days were completed for the circumcision of the Child, His name was called JESUS, the name given by the angel before He was conceived in the womb. Luke 2:21
To Appear in the Temple
"For thus says the LORD of hosts: "Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; Haggai 2:6
`And I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the `Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,' says the LORD of hosts. - -7
`The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,' says the LORD of hosts. `And in this place I will give peace,' says the LORD of hosts. - -9
"Behold, I send My messenger, and he will prepare the way before Me. And the LORD, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight. Behold, He is coming." Says the LORD of hosts. Malachi 3:1
Appears in the Temple
So he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when the parents brought in the Child Jesus, to do for Him according to the custom of the law, Luke 2:27
He took Him up in his arms and blessed GOD and said: - -28
"LORD, now You are letting Your servant depart in peace, according to Your word; - -29
For my eyes have seen Your salvation. - -30
Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, - -31
A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel." - -32
"But I say to you that in this place there is One greater than the temple." Matthew 12:6
Early Fame
When Herod the king heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. Matthew 2:3
Then fear came on all who dwelt around them; and all these sayings were discussed throughout all the hill country of Judea. Luke 1:65
And all those who heard them kept them in their hearts, saying, "What kind of child will this be?" And the hand of the LORD was with him. - -66
Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child.
- 2:17
And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. - -18
But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. - -19
Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising GOD for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them. Luke 2:20
And Joseph and His mother marveled at those things which were spoken of Him. Luke 2:33

Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared.
Matthew 2:7
And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and search diligently for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also." - -8
To Be Slaughtered (The Innocents)
Thus says the LORD: "A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted for her children, because they are no more." Jeremiah 31:15
Thus says the LORD: "Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears; for your work shall be rewarded, says the LORD, and they shall come back from the land of the enemy. - -16
There is hope in your future, says the
LORD, that your children shall come back to their own border. - -17
Prophecy Applied
Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying:
Matthew 2:17
"A voice was heard in Ramah, Lamentation, weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted, because they were no more." - -18
Verified
Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men. Matthew 2:16
To Have Shelter in Egypt
"When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son.
Hosea 11:1
Accomplishment
When he arose, he took the young Child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt, Matthew 2:14
And was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the LORD through the prophet, saying, "Out of Egypt I called My Son." - -15
Return
But when Herod was dead, behold an angel of the LORD appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, Matthew 2:19
Saying, "Arise, take the young Child and His mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the young Child's life are dead." - -20
Then he arose, took the young Child and His mother, and came into the land of Israel. - -21
But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea instead of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And being warned by GOD in a dream, he turned aside into the region of Galilee.
Matthew 2:22
And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, "He shall be called a Nazarene." - -23
So when they had performed all things according to the law of the LORD, they returned to Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth. Luke 2:39
Evolution of Body and Mind
And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of GOD was upon Him. Luke 2:40
And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with GOD and men. - -52
So the child grew and became strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel. - 1:80

But He answered them, saying, "Who is My mother, or My brothers?" - -33
And He looked around in a circle at those who sat about Him, and said, "Here are My mother and My brothers! - -34
"For whoever does the will of GOD is My brother and My sister and mother." - -35
After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days. John 2:12
But I saw none of the other apostles except James, the LORD's brother. Galatians 1:19
Stigmatized Therewith
And when He had come to His own country, he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, "Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Matthew 13:54
"Is this not the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? Matthew 13:55
And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?" - -56
So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house." - -57
His Filial Conduct
When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know it; Luke 2:43
So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, "Son why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously." - -48
And He said to them, "Why is it that you sought Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father's business?"
- -49
But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them. - -50
Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart. - -51
When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold your son!" John 19:26
Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!" And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home. - -27

For even His brothers did not believe in Him. - -5

"The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil." - -7
"You go up to this feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, for My time has not yet fully come." - -8
When He had said these things to them, He remained in Galilee. - -9
But when His brothers had gone up, then He also went up to the feast, not openly as it were in secret. - -10
