Chapter 6

Christ's Life

Accommodations of Abode

And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head."  Luke 9:58

The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.  John 1:37

Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, "What do you seek?" They said to Him, "Rabbi (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), where are You staying?"  - -38

He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour).  - -39

Visited by Friends

Nicodemus (he who came to Jesus by night, being one of them) said to them.  John 7:50

Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met Him, but Mary was sitting in the house.  - 11:20

And when she had said these things, she went her way and secretly called Mary her sister saying, "The Teacher has come and is calling for you."   - -28

As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly and came to Him.  - -29

Now Jesus had not yet come into the town, but was in the place where Martha met Him.  - -30

Complimentary Attentions

And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. And she broke the flask and poured it on His head.  Mark 14:3

And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil.  Luke 7:37

And stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil.  - -38

In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, "Rabbi eat."  - 4:31
But He said to them, "I have food to eat of which you do not know."  - -32
Therefore the disciples said to one another, "Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?"  - -33
Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work."  - -34
Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.  - 12:3

Invited to Entertainment

And so it was, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples.  Matthew 9:10

Now it happened, as He was dining in Levi's house, that many tax collectors and sinners also sat together with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many, and they followed Him.  Mark 2:15
And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Him eating with the tax collectors and sinners, they said to His disciples, "How is it that He eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?"  - -16

Then Levi gave Him a great feast in his own house. And there were a great number of tax collectors and others who sat down with them.  Luke 5:29
Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee's house, and sat down to eat.  - 7:36
And as He spoke, a certain Pharisee asked Him to dine with him. So He went in and sat down to eat.  - 11:37
Now it happened, as He went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees to eat bread on the Sabbath, that they watched Him closely.  - 14:1

Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead.  John 12:1
There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him.  - -2

A Guest with Divers Persons

Then He left them and went out of the city to Bethany, and He lodged there.  Matthew 21:17

Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house.  Luke 10:38

And when Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, "Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house."
Luke 19:5
So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully.  - -6

So when the Samaritans had come to Him, they urged Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days.
John 4:40
Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.  - 11:5
So, when He heard that he was sick, He stayed two more days in the place where He was.  - -6

Wants

And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head."  Matthew 8:20

A woman of Samaria came to draw water, Jesus said to her, "Give Me a drink."  John 4:7
For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.  - -8

Reliefs

There were also women looking on from afar, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the Less and of Joses, and Salome.  Mark 15:40
Who also followed Him and ministered to Him when He was in Galilee; and many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.  - -41
And certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and imfirmities Mary called Magdalene, out of whom had come seven demons.  Luke 8:2
And Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward and Susanna, and many others who provided for Him from their substance.  - -3

Followed by Multitudes

And great multitudes followed Him from Galilee, and from Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.  Matthew 4:25
When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him.  - 8:1
On the same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea.  - 13:1
And great multitudes were gathered together to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.  - -2
Now as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed Him. - 20:29

Immediately many gathered together, so that there were no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And He preached the word to them.  Mark 2:2
And the multitude came together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.  - 3:20
Now when Jesus had crossed over again by boat to the other side, a great multitude gathered to Him; and He was by the sea.  - 5:21
And when He came to the disciples, He saw a great multitude around them, and scribes disputing with them.  - 9:14

Then behold, men brought on a bed a man who was paralyzed. And they sought to bring him in and lay him before Him.  Luke 5:18

And when they could not find how they might bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the housetop and let him down with his bed through the tiling into the midst before Jesus.  Luke 5:19
And Jesus said, "Who touched Me?"  When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, "Master, the multitudes throng You and press You, and you say, `Who touched Me?'."  - 8:45
Now it happened on the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, that a great multitude met Him.  - 9:37
And great multitudes went with Him. And He turned and said to them.  - 14:25

Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?"  John 6:5
But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do.  - -6

Followed With Keen Eagerness by the Multitudes

When Jesus heard it, He departed from there by boat to a deserted place by Himself. But when the multitudes heard it, they followed Him on foot from the cities.  Matthew 14:13

But when the multitudes saw them departing, and many knew Him and ran there on foot from all the cities. They arrived before them and came together to Him.  Mark 6:33

Now when it was day, He departed and went into a deserted place. And the crowd sought Him and came to Him, and tried to keep Him from leaving them.  Luke 4:42
So it was, when Jesus returned, that the multitude welcomed Him, for they were all waiting for Him.  - 8:40
In the meantime, when an innumerable multitude of people had gathered together, so that they trampled one another, He began to say to His disciples first of all, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy."  - 12:1

Followed by Multitudes from what Motives

For He healed many, so that as many as had afflictions pressed about Him to touch Him.  Mark 3:10

Now so it was, as the multitudes pressed about Him to hear the word of  GOD, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret.  Luke 5:1
And He came down with them and stood on a level place with a crowd of His disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and be healed of their diseases.  - 6:17

Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased.  John 6:2

Christ Retires from the Multitudes

Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about Him, He gave a command to depart to the other side.  Matthew 8:18
Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away.  - 14:22
And Jesus departed from there, skirted the Sea of Galilee, and went up on the mountain and sat down there.
 Matthew 15:29

But when Jesus withdrew with His disciples to the sea. And a great multitude from Galilee followed Him, and from Judea.  Mark 3:7
And Jerusalem and Idumea and beyond the Jordan; and those from Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they heard how many things He was doing, came to Him.  - -8
And He told His disciples that a small boat should be kept ready for Him because of the multitude, lest they should crush Him.  - -9

And He said to them, "Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest awhile." For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.  Mark 6:31
So they departed to a deserted place in the boat by themselves.  - -32

And the apostles, when they had returned, told Him all that they had done. And He took them and went aside privately into a deserted place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.  Luke 9:10

But the one who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a multitude being in that place.  John 5:13
And Jesus went up on a mountain, and there He sat with His disciples. - 6:3

Conceals His Mission

But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew from there; and great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all.  Matthew 12:15
And He warned them not to make Him known.  - -16
Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.  - 16:20
Now as they came down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, saying, "Tell the vision to no one until the Son of Man is risen from the dead."  - 17:9

Then He charged them that they should tell no one about Him.  Mark 8:30
Now as they came down from the mountain, He commanded them that they should tell no one the things they had seen, till the Son of Man had risen from the dead.  - 9:9
So they kept this word to themselves, questioning what the rising from the dead meant.  - -10
Then they departed from there and passed through Galilee, and He did not want anyone to know it.  - -30
"The baptism of John was it from heaven or from men? Answer Me."
- 11:30
And they reasoned among themselves, saying, "If we say, `From heaven,' He will say, `Why then did you not believe him?'"  - - 31
"But if we say, `From men'" they feared the people, for all counted John to have been a prophet indeed.  - -32
So they answered and said to Jesus, "We do not know." And Jesus answered and said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things."  - -33

And He strictly warned and commanded them to tell this to no one.  Luke 9:21

Declares Himself Christ

The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When He comes, he will tell us all things."  John 4:25
Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He."  - -26

He answered and said, "Who is He, LORD, that I may believe in Him?"  - -36
And Jesus said, "You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you."  - -37
Then he said, "LORD, I believe!" And he worshipped Him.  - -38
