Chapter 10
The Sufferings of Christ before Death

Prophecy of His Blows
The LORD GOD has opened My ear, and I was not rebellious, nor did I turn away. Isaiah 50:5
I gave My back to those who struck Me, and My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard; I did not hide My face from shame and spitting. - -6
Just as many were astonished at you, so His visage was marred more than any man, and His form more than the sons of men. - 52:14
Now gather yourself in troops, O daughter of troops; He has laid siege against us; they will strike the judge of Israel with a rod on the cheek.

Christ Stricken
And when He had said these things, one of the officers who stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, "Do You answer the high priest like that?" John 18:22
Jesus answered him, "If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil; but if well, why do you strike Me?" - -23
Spit Upon
Then they spat in His face and beat Him; and others struck Him with the palms of their hands. Matthew 26:67

Prophecy of Apparel
Who is this who comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah, this One who is glorious in His apparel, traveling in the greatness of His strength? "I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save." Isaiah 63:1
Why is Your apparel red, and Your garments like one who treads in the winepress? - -2
I have trodden the winepress alone, and from the peoples no one was with Me. For I have trodden them in My anger, and trampled them in My fury; their blood is sprinkled upon My garments, and I have stained all My robes. - -3
For the day of vengeance is in My heart, and the year of My redeemed has come. - -4
I looked, but there was no one to help, and I wondered that there was no one to uphold; therefore My own arm brought salvation for Me; And My own fury, it sustained Me. - -5
Ludicrous Apparel
Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole garrison around Him. Matthew 27:27

Reflections
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of GOD. 1 Corinthians 1:18
But GOD forbid that I should glory except in the cross of our LORD Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Galatians 6:14
For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ. Philippians 3:18

Inference
Therefore Jesus also, that He might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate.

Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing His reproach. - -13
Prophecy of the Two Thieves
Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong, because He poured out His soul unto death, and He was numbered with the transgressors, and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Isaiah 53:12
"For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me; `And He was numbered with the transgressors.' For the things concerning Me have an end."

Two Thieves
Then the two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and another on the left. Matthew 27:38
With Him they also crucified two robbers, one on His right and the other on His left. Mark 15:27
So the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "And He was numbered with the transgressors." - -28
There were also two others, criminals, led with Him to be put to death.
